Lillie teams up with her close friend Charlie Mitford for photography holidays in Wiltshire, as well as select destinations across the UK and Italy. Charlie is an experienced event and travel planner with exceptional local insight and an in-depth knowledge of hundreds of inspiring locations – Wiltshire very much included.

At the heart of the region lies Cranborne Chase, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This atmospheric chalk plateau, once a medieval hunting forest, is scattered with Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments and home to rich, varied wildlife – all offering compelling photographic opportunities if you’re quick with your camera.

Wiltshire itself is a tapestry of charming towns and villages, each with its own distinctive character. From the historic market town of Warminster to picture-perfect Lacock, famed for its appearances in Downton Abbey and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and on to Shaftesbury, the iconic setting of Ridley Scott’s Hovis advert, you’ll be spoiled for choice on this photography holiday in Wiltshire.

Then there’s the local food and drink. Wiltshire is known for its cider, wine and ale, making it easy to relax with a well-earned drink after a day of shooting. Indulge in a slice of traditional lardy cake, or enjoy a lunchtime taste of classic Wiltshire ham and loaf cheese for a true flavour of the county.

Lillie brings over a decade of photography teaching experience to our photography holidays in Wiltshire, having delivered courses for leading institutions including The Photographers’ Gallery, The Nikon School, as well as through her own successful photography tuition business. With a degree in Photojournalism and extensive experience as a professional photographer, she is perfectly placed to guide and inspire guests on our UK photography holidays.

During the stay, Lillie will run four morning workshops, focusing primarily on developing strong composition skills and a confident understanding of camera mechanics. The remainder of each day is dedicated to putting these techniques into practice, photographing Wiltshire’s beautiful landscapes, villages and natural scenes.

One morning will feature an early start to capture sunrise and the calm, delicate quality of first light. Local weather conditions will be closely monitored, with the best morning chosen once the photography holiday in Wiltshire is underway.

Building confidence is central to Lillie’s teaching philosophy. She believes this naturally grows once composition and camera fundamentals truly click. There’s no better environment for that than full immersion in stunning surroundings, shared with like-minded people, on a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable photography holiday.

Testimonials

I love the local food/drink/history aspects of the trips you organise and the wonderful access that Charlie manages to get us to places that are not normally open to the public.

Julian

The whole holiday was an excellent experience and certainly the best photographic course that I have been on. The organisation was excellent and I would like to thank Daniel and Lillie again for brilliant four days.

Scarborough June 2025

Just a quick note to Lillie, Charlie and Daniel to say thank you for a great few days. Even as a non-photographer, I had a great time! Arezzo, the island and then the ancient apartment were the highlights for me. But the whole trip was fab.

Ann

My first trip so all new to me, enjoyed everything we did.

Good all round

Tuscany October 2025

Thank you so much for organising and running such a brilliant photography holiday in Tuscany last week. I had the most amazing time, thanks to the time and effort both Lillie and Charlie put into the week. I loved all the activities and the chance to try taking such a variety of photographs and it made such a difference having Charlie’s local knowledge and ability to speak fluent Italian. I still can’t quite believe how much we packed into every day. Getting back to work has been a real shock to the system!

Heather

I am sorry I can’t give critical feedback because I felt everything was so good. The organising, communication, dynamic and energy of Lillie and Charlie, the learning, location and variety all made me happy.

Tuscany October 2025

Personal attention throughout the day…whatever your ability Lillie was there to help…I found out about the Italian course next year just yesterday and booked it at once….This is not to be missed.

John

You both worked your socks off, very attentive and helpful and considerate. I learned a lot and met lovely people. Thank you

Scarborough June 2025

Lillie and Charlie really put me at ease with the whole trip. I had not done a group trip of this nature before so was a little nervous at the beginning but you two made that disappear within moments of alighting from the taxi in Cortona.

The offer of support and ability to ask you questions during and after the zoom call helped my confidence in the organisation of the trip and the friendly way you managed it. Thank you.

Photographic Information covered

Exposure is one of the keys to taking amazing photos. Each day Lillie’s session will cover a different photographic subject, teaching you how to use your camera’s settings to get correctly-exposed pictures every time, and in every situation.

You’ll understand how aperture affects your field of focus and how much detail you capture in your landscape photographs. You’ll also learn how shutter speed affects your exposure and how to use it to freeze-frame or blur your pictures, and how choosing the right ISO makes a difference to your photos.

Wiltshire is the perfect place to put all of this theoretical knowledge into practice. When photographing the stunning landscapes and portraits of your newfound friends, aperture will be your go-to setting.

On the busy streets of market towns and tourist attractions, shutter speed will be your best friend to capture the action. And when visiting mediaeval monuments and architectural marvels that don’t allow for flash photography, ISO will come in handy.

We understand that everyone who books a photography holiday UK or Europe with us is different, and not everyone has the same camera or level of knowledge. This is why Lillie takes the time to delve into the basic camera functions and where to find them on different cameras, before going into how to choose the right settings for specific types of photos.

This section will cover things like learning to control white balance in various types of artificial lighting, how to lock your focus so you always catch the right subject, and the best settings for black and white photography.

By the time your photography holiday in Wiltshire comes to an end, you’ll have an excellent understanding of your camera’s functions and be able to confidently use it to set up and create the best photos you’ve ever taken!

Each day, we’ll examine famous photographers’ work and use their ideas as inspiration to go out and capture our own amazing images. By assessing great work, you’ll quickly master different composition rules and how to use them to enhance your own photography.

Figuring out what makes an image great is twofold—it’s about our initial response to the physical beauty of the picture, but even more so, about the feeling it evokes in us.

You’ll learn how the greats use composition as a tool to bring their photos to life and imbue them with feeling and meaning. Then, you’ll get the chance to go out there and recreate those ideas, building up a collection of your own amazing photographs.

Light might be natural and out of your hands, but what you CAN control is how it comes through the camera. Once you understand the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, it becomes infinitely easier to use light to your advantage.

Lillie will talk you through using shade, direct light, and indirect light to create a specific mood in your photos. She’ll also give you some pro tips on how to find the right light while on location, so you’ll never be at the mercy of your surroundings.

She’ll also explain flash photography, and you’ll get ample chances to practise taking photos in both natural light and indoor settings.

Each afternoon, as you’re exploring the location and creating art with your camera, Lillie will guide you in more advanced skills. Her hands-on tuition is invaluable, and you’ll be able to see how she approaches photography on-the-go and put her ideas and methods to use in your own photography.

Lillie understands that each photographer sees things differently through the lens. Photography holiday UK such as these are not designed to create photography clones of the teacher—they’re a space for you to let your individual creativity blossom!

With this in mind, Lillie will help each student to find their own personal photography style and work on cultivating it during the afternoon photography sessions.
