Spend just a few hours exploring the rugged, dramatic coastline and the brooding North York Moors, and you’ll discover endless opportunities for striking photography.

The North Yorkshire coast is dotted with ancient ports, each brimming with character and unforgettable sights, making it a dream for anyone on photography holidays in Yorkshire.

Lillie and her husband Daniel lead the planning and organisation of these immersive photography holidays in Yorkshire. With years of experience and insider knowledge of the region, they guide guests to the most photogenic locations and hidden gems across Yorkshire.

From the haunting grandeur of Whitby Abbey, inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula, to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum—a tribute to one of history’s greatest explorers—and even the narrowest alley in the world at Staithes, you’ll never run out of fascinating subjects to capture on your photography tours in Yorkshire.

And when it comes to food, you’ll be perfectly placed to enjoy fresh fish and chips and other seafood straight from the North Sea. Bridlington, the largest lobster port in Europe, offers some of the freshest lobster and crab you can find. You might also sample local treats like the Harrogate Nights cocktail, Yorkshire IPA ale, and, of course, a classic Yorkshire pudding. Plus, you’ll be in the true home of black pudding (yes, Yorkshire, not Lancashire!).

Overall, our photography holidays in Yorkshire provide the perfect mix of practical photography guidance, breathtaking scenery, and rich local culture. Whether you’re capturing landscapes, historic sites, or vibrant coastal towns, you’ll develop your skills, create an inspiring portfolio, and make lifelong connections with fellow photography enthusiasts

With over a decade of teaching experience and collaborations with top institutions like the Royal Photographers Society, the Photographers’ Gallery, and the Nikon School, Lillie knows how to turn a camera into a tool for creativity. Inspired by her photojournalism background, she created photography holidays in Yorkshire to bring photography to life—beyond the studio.

On our photography holidays in Yorkshire, you’ll enjoy a mix of expert theory and hands-on sessions designed to make you a confident, creative photographer. Each morning, join one of four workshops focusing on your camera’s settings and the art of composition—starting with a breathtaking sunrise shoot! Afternoons are for exploring Yorkshire’s stunning landscapes and historic sites, putting your skills into action.

Lillie believes confidence is key to capturing extraordinary photos. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you’ll be ready to experiment, create, and develop your own style.

Immerse yourself in Yorkshire’s dramatic coastlines, charming towns, and rolling moors with like-minded photographers. Our photography holidays in Yorkshire are the perfect way to sharpen your skills, expand your portfolio, and enjoy an inspiring, unforgettable experience.

Here’s a quick overview of the invaluable skills you’ll develop during Lillie’s teaching sessions and put into practice while exploring the breathtaking Yorkshire countryside.

1. The Exposure Triangle: Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO

Exposure is the foundation of great photography. On our photography holidays in Yorkshire, each day Lillie focuses on a specific photographic element, teaching you how to adjust your camera’s settings to achieve perfectly-exposed images in any situation.

You’ll discover how aperture shapes your depth of field, controlling how much of your landscape or subject is in focus. You’ll learn how shutter speed can freeze the action or create motion blur, and how selecting the right ISO affects the brightness and clarity of your images.

Yorkshire offers the perfect playground for applying these skills. On the dramatic coastline and moors, aperture will be your essential tool. In busy towns, promenades, and tourist hotspots, shutter speed will help you capture the energy. And in historic buildings or low-light interiors, ISO becomes your best friend.

2. Camera Functions and How to Use Them

Every photographer has a unique style, camera, and skill level. That’s why Lillie takes time to explore your camera’s functions in detail, showing you where to find key controls on different models and how to select the best settings for various types of photography.

You’ll learn to manage white balance in different lighting conditions, lock focus for precise shots, and choose the ideal settings for black-and-white photography. By the end of your photography holiday in Yorkshire, you’ll understand your camera inside and out and feel confident to capture stunning images wherever you go.

3. Composition “Rules” and Creative Ideas

Each day, we study the work of renowned photographers, drawing inspiration for your own images. Great photography isn’t just about capturing beauty—it’s about conveying emotion and storytelling.

Lillie will teach you how to use composition to add depth, meaning, and feeling to your photos. Then, on location, you’ll practice these techniques, building your own portfolio filled with impactful, expressive images.

4. Light: How to Find It and Shape It

Light is the soul of photography. On our photography holidays in Yorkshire, you’ll learn how to work with natural and artificial light, and how to manipulate shutter speed, aperture, and ISO to create stunning effects.

Lillie will guide you in using direct light, shade, and reflected light to evoke mood and atmosphere. You’ll also gain practical experience with flash photography, ensuring you’re ready to capture every moment beautifully—whether outdoors or in low-light conditions.

5. Personalised Guidance to Develop Your Photography Skills

Afternoon sessions are dedicated to putting theory into action. As you explore Yorkshire’s scenic locations, Lillie provides hands-on guidance, showing her approach to capturing compelling images and helping you apply these techniques to your own work.

Our photography holidays in Yorkshire are designed to nurture your personal style. Lillie encourages creativity, helping each photographer develop a unique voice rather than simply imitating the teacher. By the end of your trip, you’ll have refined skills, a growing portfolio, and newfound confidence behind the lens.

Very enjoyable. Excellent planning and operation!

Scarborough June 2025

I had a wonderful time in Cortona. This is a great course for all levels. It was relaxed and fun with plenty of lovely food and wine from the local area. The group was a great mix of people from all walks of life. We had plenty of time to play around with different settings on our cameras as well as visiting some very interesting places in and around the local area, which has a very rich history.

Christina

The whole holiday was an excellent experience and certainly the best photographic course that I have been on. The organisation was excellent and I would like to thank Daniel and Lillie again for brilliant four days.

Scarborough June 2025

I love the local food/drink/history aspects of the trips you organise and the wonderful access that Charlie manages to get us to places that are not normally open to the public.

Julian

Lillie and Charlie really put me at ease with the whole trip. I had not done a group trip of this nature before so was a little nervous at the beginning but you two made that disappear within moments of alighting from the taxi in Cortona.

The offer of support and ability to ask you questions during and after the zoom call helped my confidence in the organisation of the trip and the friendly way you managed it. Thank you.

Tuscany October 2025

I am sorry I can’t give critical feedback because I felt everything was so good. The organising, communication, dynamic and energy of Lillie and Charlie, the learning, location and variety all made me happy.

Tuscany October 2025

I couldn’t leave it without saying a huge thank you to you and Charlie for a really informative, enjoyable and relaxing course. It certainly gave me lots to think about. We had great company, delicious food and probably more information than my brain could consume!

David

Just a quick note to Lillie, Charlie and Daniel to say thank you for a great few days. Even as a non-photographer, I had a great time! Arezzo, the island and then the ancient apartment were the highlights for me. But the whole trip was fab.

Ann
